One is 7, the other is 80. They both wrote about falling leaves in the autumn.
This landed in my Twitter feed and made my day on October 6, 2022:
Irish poet Pat Ingoldsby is known for taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary, in this case a single leaf in a tree outside his house. “All the other leaves are gone are you are still there.”
Dear Solveig,
Hello! I am going to resonate with the photo and the poem musically. Those colourful leaves remind me of the 1945 popular French song “Les feuilles mortes” (literally “The Dead Leaves”) sung by Edith Piaf and Yves Montand with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, and later translated into English as “Autumn Leaves” by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer in 1947.
Included here is the version sung by Nat King Cole. It is indeed a very nostalgic song. I hope that you like it.
Thank you for composing this latest post of yours entitled “Leaves are falling. It’s autumn.” as we enjoy the final month of autumn in November.
Wishing you a productive November and a wonderful weekend doing or enjoying whatever that satisfies you the most, whether intellectually, artistically, physically or spiritually!
Yours sincerely,

Thanks for your lovely comment. That Nat King Cole song is hauntingly melancholy – a perfect match for November Blues. I love it!
